Job Summary

Clear Creek County, Colorado seeks a highly skilled and experienced Detention Deputy to join our team. As a key member of our law enforcement team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our detention facility, as well as the well-being of our inmates and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce county laws, state and federal statutes, and maintain the security of the jail by ensuring all inmates are adequately confined.
  • Monitor the safety of inmates, detainees, visitors, and employees, and respond to emergency situations as needed.
  • Book in and bond out prisoners, maintain inmate cash accounts, and update inmate records on a regular basis.
  • Administer prescribed and non-prescribed medications, and log all information regarding inmates to accurately reflect their activity.
  • Inspect cellblocks, kitchen, and work areas to ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Operate two-way radios, fingerprint machines, breath testing devices, computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, and other equipment as needed.
  • Transport inmates to and from court, other penal institutions, or medical appointments, and record all transportation transactions.
  • Maintain transportation vehicles to ensure proper working order, and act as court bailiff as required.
  • May be called upon to testify in court or hearings, and supervise inmate workers during inside and outside work activities.
  • Operate commissary as scheduled, maintain efficient recording keeping and filing systems, and prepare reports as needed.
Requirements
  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Requires at least one year of law enforcement experience, and a valid Colorado driver's license.
  • Must possess certification for CPR and first aid, and Colorado POST certification is desired.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and remain calm in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the use of computers, firearms, and non-lethal control techniques.
  • Ability to perform law enforcement duties requiring good judgment under pressure, and good physical condition.
Work Environment

This position involves working in a high-stress environment with potential hazards such as assault by inmates, biohazard transmission, and the possibility of fires and disturbances.

Must be in good health and physical condition, with the ability to climb and descend stairs quickly and repeatedly throughout a work shift.

Must possess adequate physical strength to drag an unconscious subject a distance of 50 feet across a smooth level surface.

Must have vision of 20-40 or better using both eyes, with eyeglasses or contact lenses if required.

Must be able to detect criminal/hazardous situations, and respond appropriately.

Must be able to perform law enforcement duties requiring good judgment under pressure, and good physical condition.

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.

Must be able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Must be able to work effectively in a team environment, and provide excellent customer service to the public and other stakeholders.

Must be able to adapt to changing situations and priorities, and demonstrate flexibility and a positive attitude.

Must be able to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Must be able to pass a background check and obtain any necessary certifications or training.
