This position is responsible for investigating crimes in Clear Creek County, Colorado. The successful candidate will assist other agencies, District Attorney's offices, and officers with investigations and file cases with the District Attorney's office for prosecution.
Key Responsibilities- Enforce County ordinances and State and Federal Statutes.
- Coordinate complex criminal investigations in the County.
- Respond to crimes of arson, theft/burglary, assault, narcotics, suicide, and homicide.
- Direct investigations at crime scenes, acting as evidence custodian to preserve evidence, function as a criminal photographer, and ensure retrieval of evidence and evidence processing.
- Interview and interrogate persons to prepare investigation reports and compile documentation to complete the case for referral to the District Attorney's office for prosecution.
- Work with the District Attorney's office in preparing the case for trial. Work with County and District courts as required. Testify in criminal cases.
- Instruct Deputy Sheriffs in crime scene processing, evidence collection, and reporting.
- Perform administrative duties such as serving on the hiring boards and conducting internal investigations.
- Assist other Deputy Sheriffs, as required, in their normal job duties.
- Assist the Detentions Division with high-risk inmate transports/court security.
- Teach/train in specific specialty areas related to investigations and evidence collection/management.
- Video and audio dubbing as requested.
- Actively engage the community and build relationships with community members, co-workers, and colleagues.
- Make arrests as necessary; serve warrants and subpoenas; conduct searches and seizures involving people, vehicles, and structures.
- Testify in court.
- Availability to work long hours.
- Manage the evidence section as needed.
- Responsible for the dissemination of information relating to crime trends, wanted suspects, and officer safety information to other divisions and agencies.
- Conducts surveillance operations and gathers intelligence, may work undercover.
- Prepares documentation of activities and information.
- Acts as a desk officer answering public inquiries.
- Attends post-mortem examinations to obtain fingerprints, nail scrapings; collect clothing and other evidence as needed in any death investigations.
- Prepares crime scene diagrams and/or graphic representations of crime scenes.
- Conducts records queries from a variety of local stages.
- Manage and register all sex offenders in unincorporated Clear Creek County, including obtained court conviction records, obtained relevant police reports, determining the offender's registration requirements, updates and modifying existing sex offender's information in CCIC/NCIC within three days, coordinates house check operations, inactivates a re-locating sex offender's records, tracks all sex offender's reregistration dates, coordinates with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, law enforcement and the public to locate unregistered sex offenders, coordinates and participates in community notification meetings for sexually
This position requires a high school diploma plus Colorado Police Academy Certification plus courses in advanced crime scene investigations. The successful candidate must have at least four (4) years of law enforcement experience, with knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, gathering, preserving, and processing evidence, photography, and interrogation techniques. Must be proficient in all skills taught in the Police Academy. Must have mastery-level skills in gathering, preserving, and processing evidence, photography, communications, and in handling stressful situations. Must know how to administer first aid and CPR. Must have knowledge of proper investigative procedures and procedures for working with the District Attorney's office and courts.
Additional Requirements- Must be Colorado POST Certified.
- Must be proficient in all skills taught in the Police Academy.
- Must have mastery-level skills in communications and in handling stressful situations.
- Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license.
- Must possess certification for CPR and first aid.
- Must be able to pass psychological, physical, and background examinations.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
This position involves working in circumstances involving hazards such as crimes, accidents, fires, assaults, biohazards transmitted by subjects, and disturbances, which may be threatening to life or cause bodily harm. Work is also conducted in extreme weather conditions, with exposure to hot and/or cold temperatures for extended periods. Extremely stressful environment during peak activity, periods demanding full attention and coordination of numerous tasks simultaneously. Is assigned to work schedules requiring work on rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
