Position: Security Monitor

Organization: Chicago Youth Centers

Compensation: $18 per hour

Classification: Part Time; Non-Exempt

Reporting To: Director of Community Schools

Location: Sherman Elementary

Schedule: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM; Monday - Friday; subject to change based on organizational needs

Role Purpose

The Security Monitor is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure atmosphere for the community, staff, and students by actively monitoring and patrolling the premises.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct Hall Sweeps as assigned.
  • Oversee school grounds and entrances to ensure only authorized individuals gain access; manage visitor protocols effectively.
  • Monitor student entry and dismissal processes to uphold safety standards.
  • Report any unusual activities or safety concerns to the Site Coordinator or school administration promptly.
  • Maintain an orderly post as per the school's security plan, remaining vigilant at all times unless directed otherwise.
  • Assist in de-escalating inappropriate behaviors among students and promote a productive afterschool environment.
  • Document incidents and misconduct accurately.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the CPS Student Code of Conduct.
  • Understanding of basic security and safety measures.
  • Ability to engage positively with adolescents to foster a safe school culture.
  • Capability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change while maintaining a positive outlook.
  • Commitment to cultural awareness and continuous professional development.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments and manage multiple tasks.
  • Sound judgment and ethical decision-making skills.
