Position Overview

The Senior Biomedical Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and performance verification of sophisticated biomedical devices and systems, operating independently without technical oversight. The ideal candidate will possess proficiency in utilizing all necessary testing equipment and tools essential for executing their responsibilities. This role also involves advising administrative, medical, and clinical personnel on the safe utilization and proper functioning of clinical apparatus, as well as assisting in the formulation of specifications for new equipment selection. Additionally, the Senior Biomedical Technician plays a vital role in departmental enhancement and growth by mentoring fellow associates. Essential Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree in a technical or electronics discipline or equivalent education/experience, including military training or academic coursework aligned with AAMI's Core Competencies for Biomedical Equipment Technicians, along with foundational knowledge in mathematics, physics, chemistry, English, and professional skills. Enhanced levels of certification and training are required as necessary. A thorough understanding of common clinical terminology and life sciences, including anatomy and physiology, is essential. Comprehensive knowledge of computer systems and network architecture is also required.
  • Experience: Demonstrates a detailed understanding and can effectively communicate the operation of supported devices.
  • Provides advanced support for acuity equipment utilized in direct patient care.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of the operational environment they support, such as hospitals or clinics.
  • Holds advanced experience within their designated clinical setting.
  • Public Safety & Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with local and national public safety and regulatory standards is necessary.
  • Customer Service: Possesses a working knowledge of project management terminology and methodologies, successfully resolving organization-level customer service challenges and complaints.
  • Equipment Proficiency: Demonstrates mastery of clinical equipment, including radiological, laboratory, and network medical systems, enabling effective work beyond individual devices.
  • General Skills & Experience: Holds advanced understanding and skills related to general electromechanical systems and devices.
  • General Guidelines: Fully experienced with an exceptional skill set or knowledge, operates with minimal supervision, and is capable of serving as a trainer or mentor to junior and mid-level staff. Can perform in a leadership capacity.
Driving may be necessary as part of this role, and compliance with all state laws is expected.Proof of driver license and auto insurance may be required.A minimum of 5 years of experience working with biomedical equipment in a clinical engineering environment is required, along with manufacturers' technical training certificates for at least two high-end devices, which may include Anesthesia Machines, Ventilators, Ultrasound Machines, and Sterilizers, or service seminar certificates for Radiology equipment.Preferred Qualifications:
  • Biomedical Technician certification upon hire.
