Position Overview

RAND is seeking skilled sociologists to engage in various policy-driven research initiatives that align with our core research domains: social and economic wellbeing; healthcare, particularly maternal and child health; education and labor dynamics; immigration issues; military and national defense strategies; and homeland security.

Research Focus

We are looking for candidates with robust expertise in policy-oriented research. Proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies is essential, with potential areas of specialization including but not limited to: causal inference, longitudinal studies, demographic analysis, machine learning/artificial intelligence, computational analytics, survey design, focus group facilitation, interviewing techniques, and observational research methods. We also value innovative approaches to research methodologies.

Teaching Opportunities

Selected candidates may have the chance to hold appointments and teach at the Pardee RAND Graduate School.

Qualifications

All research roles at RAND necessitate exceptional analytical capabilities; effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written; the ability to collaborate successfully within a multidisciplinary team; and a strong dedication to RAND's fundamental principles of quality and impartiality.

Educational Background

  • Ph.D. in Sociology, Demography, or a related discipline
  • Proven research experience and a keen interest in empirical analysis pertinent to public policy

Professional Experience

Applicants should be in the process of completing a Ph.D. or possess post-graduate experience in either academic or non-academic research environments.

Work Arrangement

RAND offers a hybrid work model, combining remote work with on-site responsibilities. Fully remote positions may also be considered.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is between $100,000 and $262,500, depending on the level of experience:

  • Associate Researcher: $100,000 - $154,200
  • Full Researcher: $154,200 - $190,000
  • Senior Researcher: $152,700 - $262,500

RAND evaluates various factors when determining offers, including the specific role, responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and internal equity. Successful candidates will be appointed as Associate, Full, or Senior researchers based on their qualifications.
