Job Summary:

As a Senior Security Officer at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of our patients, visitors, and staff. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead and direct our Safety & Security Officers during shifts, providing guidance and support as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and direct Safety & Security Officers during shifts, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Assist hospital staff in restraining emotionally disturbed patients in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Inspect fire-related equipment at the hospital to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Observe and report on safety conditions of buildings and grounds, identifying potential hazards and taking corrective action.
  • Maintain order during emergencies, such as fires, accidents, and disturbances, ensuring the safety of all individuals involved.
  • Perform all other functions not listed but required by hospital policies, including surveillance of loiterers, disorderly persons, or hazardous conditions.
  • Investigate and prepare reports on complaints of loss, theft, breakage, vandalism, accidents, and other incidents, following standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct fire drills with all nursing units to ensure preparedness and compliance with safety regulations.
Requirements:
  • Must be in good physical health, with the ability to perform strenuous activities, including walking, running, and lifting.
  • Must possess reasonable agility and dexterity to protect oneself and others during stressful situations.
  • Ability to handle combative patients and visitors safely, using de-escalation techniques and physical restraint as necessary.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
  • Paid law enforcement and/or fire service experience is mandatory, with a valid and current NY State Armed Security Guard license required.
  • Valid and current Pistol Permit is also required.
  • Good customer service skills are essential, with a focus on providing excellent service to patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
  • BLS/CPR certification is required within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be willing to wear body armor and a bulletproof vest while working at all times.
