At UNC Internal Medicine, we prioritize strong relationships between doctors and patients, ensuring exceptional continuity of care. We believe in a collaborative approach to healthcare.

A multidisciplinary team comprising nurses, administrative personnel, clinical pharmacists, care assistants, nutritionists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and physicians works together to provide comprehensive care for each patient at every interaction.

This role is eligible for a $5,000 incentive.

Position Overview:


Delivers direct patient care, addressing both psychological and physical needs in alignment with the care plan, physician directives, and nursing protocols.

Patients served span from neonates to geriatrics. Care may be administered in various settings, including inpatient facilities, outpatient clinics, home health, or hospice care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the formulation and upkeep of a personalized, goal-oriented care plan, collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure the needs of patients and caregivers are met.
  • Monitors, evaluates, documents, and communicates patient responses to treatments and educational initiatives, adjusting care priorities based on patient and caregiver requirements. Collects, records, and relays pertinent data regarding the patient's physical, psychological, environmental, self-care, educational, and discharge planning needs to the responsible MD or RN.
  • Engages in unit, service, and departmental enrichment activities that contribute to positive outcomes, such as participation in committees, quality improvement initiatives, and the training of new staff.
  • Administers a wide array of treatments and therapies to patients, including respiratory treatments, suctioning, tracheostomy care, medication administration, cardiac monitoring, and reporting any changes, assisting physicians with specialized procedures, monitoring IV infusions, conducting point-of-care testing, performing routine lab work, changing/irrigating catheters, applying specialized sterile dressings, and educating patients and caregivers according to the established teaching plan.
  • Facilitates patient and family support during the admission process, orientation to the healthcare experience, and discharge planning.
  • Provides emotional support to patients and families, employing verbal de-escalation techniques for anxious or potentially aggressive patients and promoting age-appropriate coping strategies.

Additional Information

Education Requirements:

  • Graduation from a state-accredited practical nursing program is required.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:

  • Must hold a valid Practical Nurse (LPN) license in North Carolina and possess BLS certification.
Professional Experience Requirements:

  • No prior experience is necessary.
