Job Summary

South Middlesex Opportu is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Program Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our shelter, responding to emergency situations, and providing support to our residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and enforce household rules and routines to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations, including overnight and weekend shifts.
  • Provide written communication in logs at the end of each shift to ensure accurate record-keeping.
  • Offer emotional support and guidance to residents, promoting a positive and inclusive community.
  • Attend staff meetings, group trainings, and supervisions as required to stay informed and up-to-date on policies and procedures.
  • Accept donations and oversee volunteer activities to enhance our services.
  • Uphold confidentiality and maintain the trust of our clients, employees, and agency partners.
  • Engage with clients to understand their needs and provide tailored support, participating in engagement team meetings as needed.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and cultures, with a strong commitment to social justice.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Bilingual skills a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to write clear and concise reports.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.

Organizational Relationship:

  • Directly reports to the Program Director.
  • Indirectly reports to the Component Director.

Working Conditions:

This role requires the ability to ascend and descend stairs and lift at least 25 pounds. A successful background check is required due to the nature of the work.
