Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of the billing department to optimize revenue and cash flow while ensuring compliance with established policies.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Report performance metrics and action plans to executive leadership.
  • Identify and enhance processes to meet critical revenue cycle objectives, including A/R days and cash collections.
  • Analyze financial data and present insights and trends to senior management.
  • Regularly review billing workloads to ensure equitable distribution and achievement of departmental goals.
  • Address complex issues involving patients and providers as required.
  • Manage self-pay receivables and vendor relationships to facilitate A/R resolution.
  • Develop and refine policies and procedures, evaluating new systems and recommending improvements.
  • Engage with payers to resolve issues effectively.
  • Supervise hiring, training, and performance evaluations of billing staff.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of third-party billing requirements and reimbursement practices.
  • Conduct staff meetings to discuss reimbursement methodologies and changes in insurance guidelines.
  • Stay informed about compliance regulations and ensure departmental adherence.
  • Meet deadlines set by senior leadership.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.

Qualifications:

  • Coding Certification or equivalent experience is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

  • At least five years of leadership experience in a healthcare billing department.
  • Experience in orthopedic specialties is preferred.
  • Prior experience with billing for physical therapy or ancillary services is a plus.
  • Demonstrated managerial skills with a positive and motivating leadership style.

Skills:

  • Effective communication with physicians, staff, patients, and external stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Revenue Cycle Management process.
  • Proficient in analyzing financial data.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Well-organized with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience managing large medical billing teams and optimizing workflows.
  • Knowledge of claims processing systems and regulations.
  • Familiarity with medical coding and billing practices.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify process improvement opportunities.
