Surgical Director, Lung Transplantation Program Leader

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Director to lead our Lung Transplantation Program at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for coordinating and directing the lung transplant surgical services, maintaining certification for both transplant programs, and developing strategies to increase procedure volume while focusing on improving outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Provide in-patient and out-patient pre-transplant evaluation, expertise in multi-disciplinary lung transplant selection committees, donor screening and selection, procurement surgery, recipient surgery, and preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative management of lung transplantation.
- Perform surgery for lung failure, including Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), tracheostomy, bronchoscopy, and cardiac and/or thoracic surgical procedures, depending on expertise.
- Work collaboratively with the Section Chief to develop and implement strategies to increase procedure volume and improve outcomes.
- Contribute to clinical care, education, and research, with a focus on teaching and mentoring.
- MD or DO degree with Board Certification/Eligibility by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery or foreign equivalent.
- Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- Preference given to candidates trained in an ACGME-accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship program.
