Position Overview

Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Call Requirement: Every third weekend rotation (Friday 3:30 PM to Monday 7:00 AM), weeknight call to be determined.

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) with a robust background in Cardiovascular Surgery and Heart and Lung Transplantation. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional skills in endoscopic vessel harvesting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a surgical assistant for a range of surgical interventions under the direct supervision of the attending surgeon.
  • Function as a circulating nurse and/or scrub nurse as needed.
  • Evaluate patient conditions, ensure a safe care environment, manage equipment usage, and oversee care provided by Surgical Technologists and other support staff.
Collaboration and Patient Care

Work closely with the cardiovascular surgery team to deliver high-quality patient care. Assist in various cardiovascular surgical procedures, including:

  • Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
  • Aortic Reconstruction
  • Complex Valve Surgery
  • Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy
  • Ross Procedure
  • Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
  • Vascular Access
  • Sternal Closure

Utilize advanced endoscopic vessel harvesting techniques to improve surgical outcomes. Be comfortable operating within an academic-style cardiac program while maintaining the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and clinical excellence.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree: Nursing (Required)
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with successful completion of additional educational preparation specific to the RNFA role, including a supervised clinical component (Required)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Cardiovascular Surgery and Heart/Lung Transplantation (Required)
  • Demonstrated skills in intraoperative nursing behaviors, including handling tissue, utilizing instruments, providing exposure, and ensuring hemostasis (Required)
  • Certifications: BLS (AHA), CNOR, RN License (Required); ACLS and CFA (Preferred)

Shift: Days, with full weekend call rotation
