Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Clinical Support Specialist to join our team at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita Internal Medicine Department. As a key member of our clinical team, you will provide high-quality patient care and support to our physicians, residents, and other medical providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to patient calls and messages, triaging and prioritizing requests for clinical advice, care plans, prescription refills, test results, and coordinating care with providers and other nursing team members.
  • Refill medications as authorized per protocol and as ordered by the provider(s), and obtain insurance authorizations as needed.
  • Enter and coordinate provider orders for medications, lab, imaging, DME, etc., monitor outstanding orders, and follow-up to verify if completed and/or obtain results.
  • Perform care-related tasks such as administration of immunizations and injections, phlebotomy, CLIA-waived lab testing, suture/staple removal, EKGs, wound care, x-rays (if certified), and assisting with in-office procedures.
  • Manage INRs per established protocols.
  • Administer and record screening tests in development, hearing, and vision as ordered.
  • Review and prepare charts for upcoming appointments, including retrieval of pending test results, consult reports, external documents, and identifying preventive services that are due.
  • Provide and document chronic care management services and population health management activities as assigned.
  • Assist providers during exams and procedures as needed.
  • Provide cross coverage on the floor as needed.
  • Provide patient education to patients and/or their caregivers.
  • Assist with clean up in the team room at end of day, secure PHI, lock all necessary cabinets, check refrigerator temperatures, count narcotics/controlled substances (if applicable).
  • Participate in clinic process improvement activities and team meetings to ensure efficient operations.
Requirements
  • Kansas licensed RN or LPN.
  • IV certification is a plus.
  • Associates degree (two-year college or technical school).
  • Minimum two (2) years nursing experience required.
  • EHR experience preferred (we use eClinicalWorks).
  • Microsoft Office experience a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bi-lingual candidates strongly considered.
