Overview
Mass General Brigham is seeking a dedicated Research Coordinator to join our innovative team in the Cardiovascular Lab's Exercise for Persons with Disabilities (ExPD) Program. This unique initiative employs Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) alongside adaptive rowing ergometers, offering individuals with spinal cord injuries or other neuromuscular conditions a distinctive opportunity to participate in comprehensive exercise regimens.

Position Responsibilities
This role encompasses a variety of Clinical Research Coordinator duties, including overseeing ongoing exercise training studies and managing daily operations within an adapted gym environment. The atmosphere is supportive, motivating, and enjoyable for both staff and participants.

Key Duties
  • Exercise Training:
    • Assist in crafting tailored exercise plans for each participant.
    • Support individuals during transfers and motivate them throughout their workouts.
    • Introduce clients to adapted rowing exercise training.
    • Monitor and document the training progress and adherence of participants.
    • Prepare equipment for subsequent users.
    • Troubleshoot any issues with exercise machinery.
    • Respond to inquiries from clients and participants or direct them appropriately.
  • Exercise Testing:
    • Support maximal exercise testing procedures.
    • Clarify testing protocols to clients and participants.
    • Conduct blood pressure assessments.
    • Perform Resting EKG evaluations.
    • Administer relevant questionnaires.
  • General Responsibilities:
    • Maintain supplies and equipment for exercise testing and training.
    • Handle general administrative tasks and documentation.
    • Coordinate appointment scheduling.
    • Assist in supervising undergraduate interns.
    • Ensure cleanliness and organization in exercise areas.
    • Compile and present progress reports to clients and participants.

Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in exercise science or a related discipline is required.
  • Master's Degree in a relevant scientific field is preferred for advanced positions.
Experience:
  • Direct experience in clinical research is essential.
  • Familiarity with exercise testing protocols and training methodologies is required.
Skills:
  • Proficiency in computer applications is necessary, with a preference for Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative team member.
  • Proactive in identifying challenges and developing strategies to address them.
  • Strong service orientation, with the ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities.
