Chicago, Illinois, United States Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science Full time

Position Overview

Join the Resuscitation Institute at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science as a vital member of our research team focused on acute life-threatening conditions such as cardiac arrest, hemorrhagic shock, and septic shock. This role emphasizes innovative therapeutic strategies and molecular biology investigations centered on mitochondrial functions in these critical health challenges, alongside the development of groundbreaking pharmacological solutions for resuscitation from cardiac arrest and other acute hemodynamic emergencies.

The molecular biology component of this position will primarily involve exploring various aspects of mitochondrial functionality through advanced techniques including respirometry, western blotting, cell culture, and analytical assessment of high-energy nucleotides, as well as measuring inflammatory mediators in plasma and other biological fluids.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in basic science research, with proven hands-on experience in molecular biology methodologies.

Additionally, the candidate is expected to engage in academic growth through grant writing and manuscript preparation while providing education and mentorship to medical students participating in rotations at the Resuscitation Institute.

Our comprehensive benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision coverage; paid parental leave; short-term and long-term disability insurance; life insurance; flexible spending accounts; and a 403(b) retirement plan featuring an 8% employer contribution after two years of service. RFUMS prioritizes employee well-being and work-life balance, offering full-time staff three weeks of vacation, 15 sick days, and 13 holidays, plus two floating holidays, resulting in a minimum of 30 paid days off annually.

About Us

Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFU) is a graduate health sciences institution dedicated to serving the community through interprofessional education for health and biomedical professionals and the pursuit of knowledge aimed at enhancing wellness. The university reflects the spirit of inquiry and excellence exemplified by its namesake, Dr. Rosalind Franklin, whose pivotal work contributed to the understanding of DNA structure. RFU is nationally recognized for its research contributions in fields such as neuroscience, inherited disorders, cancer biology, immunology, cardiac resuscitation, and balance disorders.

In our commitment to advancing research at RFU and facilitating the application of our basic science findings towards the development of diagnostics, therapeutics, and biomarkers to improve human health, we have established a new Innovation and Research Park (IRP), which opened in January 2020. This state-of-the-art facility enables academic researchers to collaborate closely with industry researchers within a 100,000 sq ft space, also housing the Helix 51 Incubator, Chicago's latest bioscience incubator for startups.
