Job Summary:

The Senior Research Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and completing the day-to-day administrative and technical activities involved in a single complex, large, nationwide or multiple moderately complex concurrent biomedical and/or social-behavioral research study(ies) involving multiple sites and/or longitudinal assessments/interventions.

The ideal candidate will have experience with phlebotomy procedures and be able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including researchers, coordinators, and clinical staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and completes the day-to-day administrative and technical activities involved in a single complex, large, nationwide or multiple moderately complex concurrent biomedical and/or social-behavioral research study(ies) involving multiple sites and/or longitudinal assessments/interventions.
  • Ensures that all activities are completed by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and all relevant current local, state, and federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy, and procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH).
  • Performs phlebotomy procedures for various research studies.
  • Ensures the accurate processing and documentation of blood samples.
  • Follows all shipping procedures and takes inventory of supplies.
  • Works occasional Saturdays as needed to support study operations.
  • Participates in the planning and conduct of research studies.
  • Extracts and analyzes data from medical charts.
  • Completes basic clinical procedures such as drawing blood and obtaining blood pressure.
  • Manages study databases, which may include ensuring that data is collected and entered correctly.
  • Reviews and analyzes data.
  • Ensures that all study documents associated with current local, state, and federal regulatory guidelines, requirements, laws, and research protocols are completed in a timely manner.
  • Creates lab financial plans and budgets/audits expenses.
  • Obtains sales quotes for lab equipment and supplies.
  • Oversees repair and maintenance of all lab equipment and ensures that lab supplies are ready and available when necessary.
  • Trains, directs, assigns duties to, and may supervise research staff, students, residents, and/or fellows.
  • Acts as a mentor in regard to education of junior coordinators.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related.
  • Appropriate combination of education and experience and 4 years' research study or other relevant experience required.
  • Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related.
  • Appropriate combination of education and experience and 2 years' research study or other relevant experience.
  • Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants and must re-certify every 3 years.
  • Phlebotomy experience in a clinical or research setting.
  • Proficiency in blood collection techniques and sample processing.
  • Willingness to learn new skills, including the handling and shipping of biohazard materials.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with phlebotomy.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of phlebotomy techniques, including difficult draws and working with teens or elderly populations.
  • Ability to quickly understand and follow complex study protocols, including compliance with ethical standards and regulatory requirements.

Salary:

The target hiring range for this position will be between $23.99 per hour. The offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
