Research Program Manager

As the Research Program Manager, you will play a pivotal role in our mission team, specifically overseeing the ABTA's research grant initiatives.

Position Overview

This role involves applying scientific knowledge to the ABTA's Research Programs. You will collaborate with the Research Grants Manager to facilitate the peer review process for grant applications. Additionally, you will work closely with various departments, including Patient Services, Marketing and Communications, and Accounting, as well as the Development team. Your responsibilities will include managing the initiation of research grants, overseeing annual progress and financial reporting, handling grant status changes, and ensuring proper grant closure. You will also track and assess research outcomes and notable discoveries, while supporting communication and educational efforts to highlight the impact of ABTA's research funding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the scientific review process and coordinate peer review committees for research grant mechanisms.
  • Review letters of intent and grant applications for completeness and compliance.
  • Assist in recruiting, selecting, and training qualified scientific and patient advocate reviewers.
  • Manage the initiation, reporting, change requests, and closure of active research grants, ensuring compliance with grant conditions.
  • Identify and implement strategies to enhance grantee engagement, address unmet research needs, and evaluate partnership opportunities.
  • Assess research outcomes and promising discoveries, developing innovative methods to illustrate the impact of ABTA's research investments.
  • Contribute to the planning of the Annual ABTA Alumni Research Network Meeting.
  • Represent ABTA on external committees and working groups, providing insights on best practices.
  • Attend scientific conferences to represent ABTA and stay informed about ongoing research in the field.
  • Support outreach initiatives to promote awareness of ABTA grant opportunities.
  • Develop or refine research-related content for ABTA communications.
  • Assist with research and analysis related to public policy and advocacy efforts as directed.
  • Perform additional duties to support the research program as needed.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree required, with completion of postdoctoral fellowship training in biomedical research; oncology experience preferred.
  • Experience in nonprofit research grant-making is preferred, demonstrating increasing responsibility in executing mission-driven research initiatives.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Exceptional service and customer relationship skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities, along with excellent organizational skills.
  • Advanced computer proficiency preferred, including SharePoint, MS Office (Word and Excel), Salesforce, and basic knowledge of creating formulas and charts; experience with ProposalCentral grant software is a plus.
  • Must exhibit a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and self-motivation.
  • Intermediate to advanced project management skills are essential.
  • Ability to adapt and work effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Professional representation of ABTA with healthcare professionals and the scientific community.
  • Ability to engage and communicate effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Familiarity with grant processes and literature search engines.

Salary is in the mid $60K range.
