JOB SUMMARY

Oversee Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) support and evaluation programs, along with inspection and audit procedures to ensure that products and processes comply with corporate and regulatory standards at a Sysco Specialty Meat and/or Seafood Company.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise FSQA programs, including HACCP protocols, sanitation standard operating procedures, pest management, good manufacturing practices, approved supplier programs, foreign material control, plant sanitation, chemical management, product quality assurance, FSQA customer complaints, and food defense and security.
  • Assist in training employees on FSQA programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Support the implementation of an independent FSQA audit program, including SQF audits.
  • Provide assistance for product evaluations, plant visits, and supplier/customer communications to support team members. Offer help during emergencies as determined by the plant President or General Manager.
  • Engage frequently with SSMC/SSSC personnel, operations, sales, transportation, maintenance, and supplier/customer personnel at the line level.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Formal training in Total Quality Management (TQM) principles, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and HACCP concepts is advantageous.
  • Training in quality and sensory analysis is beneficial.

Experience

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in the meat and/or seafood industry at a federal CFIA/FDA processing facility.
  • Experience solely in the raw meat or seafood industry is acceptable.

Professional Skills

  • Ability to compose reports and basic business correspondence, as well as effectively present information and respond to inquiries from management.
  • Proficiency in basic arithmetic operations and measurements.
  • Capability to identify problems, gather data, and establish facts.
  • Ability to interpret basic technical instructions.
  • Competence in using personal computers, laboratory equipment, food preparation tools, and office communication devices.

Certifications, Licenses and/or Registrations

  • Valid driver's license.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to communicate effectively.
  • Frequently required to use hands for handling objects, tools, or controls.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and utilize taste or smell.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Plant audits and inspections may necessitate lifting products up to 100 pounds and conducting inspections in a production environment.
  • Corrected vision is required for sensory analysis to identify color and clarity.
  • Warehouse and plant audits also require both close and distance vision for assessing good manufacturing practices; peripheral vision and depth perception are essential for safety.

Work Environment

  • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Occasionally works near mechanical parts and in high places, with exposure to wet/humid conditions, extreme cold, and potential radiation risks.
  • The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate, with common operations in refrigerated settings.
  • Plant audits/inspections and work at remote processing facilities involve moderate to loud noise and exposure to fumes and mechanical hazards.
