Position Overview

The Catering Associate plays a vital role in supporting the preparation and delivery of meals, ensuring a high standard of service and sanitation within the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare workstations and mobile carts with necessary service ware, condiments, and food items before each meal service.
  • Maintain cleanliness of beverage service items, ensuring they are ready for each meal period.
  • Monitor and rotate food items, checking expiration dates in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Verify patient identities at each interaction, adhering to hospital guidelines.
  • Distribute menus and dietary information to patients prior to meal service.
  • Assist patients with menu choices, ensuring selections align with dietary orders and suggest suitable alternatives when necessary.
  • Gather patient meal selections and adjust them for dietary appropriateness as per Nutrition Care Orders.
  • Coordinate with nursing staff to address any changes in Nutrition Care Orders before meal service.
  • Communicate food item needs to production staff in a timely manner.
  • Assemble meal trays according to established guidelines and patient preferences.
  • Conduct catering rounds post meal delivery to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Collect and return meal trays, including late or rush orders as required.
  • Report any issues during meal service, including shortages or quality concerns, to management.
  • Notify the Dietitian of any patient-related issues, such as poor food intake or dietary discrepancies.
  • Maintain cleanliness in pantry areas and adhere to proper sanitation procedures for kitchen equipment.
  • Ensure all food items are stored correctly, properly labeled, and expired products are discarded.
  • Manage waste disposal from service ware and prepare items for washing.
  • Deliver clean service ware and floor stock to designated areas.
  • Complete daily records for floor stock and nourishment deliveries.
  • Return all food carts and items to the kitchen after service.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment by promptly addressing spills and unsafe conditions.
  • Utilize cleaning chemicals according to established safety protocols and report any labeling issues.
  • Answer department phone calls professionally and log requests for meal trays and special items.
  • Generate and maintain reports as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, push, and pull carts.
  • Capable of lifting supplies weighing 20 lbs or less.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous experience in food service or dietary roles is preferred.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written, are essential.
