SALARY

$81, $97,248.32 Annually

5% premium for regular assignment to a jail facility, when applicable

Highlighted Benefits:

THE POSITION: Under direction, oversees a team of skilled and semi-skilled personnel in maintenance operations, and may supervise contract workers performing custodial duties; executes complex maintenance assignments; and performs related responsibilities as required.

Positions assigned to various departments may necessitate performing duties inside secured facilities and interacting with challenging individuals.

  • Proficiency in computer usage, including MS Office Programs and Internet.

  • Sound judgment under pressure.
The work schedule for this position will depend upon departmental needs, which may include working on weekends, holidays, off hours, and on-call shifts.
Examples of Duties:
  1. Conducts regular inspections of assigned facilities to assess condition;
  2. Identifies issues and initiates necessary actions;
  3. Plans and schedules routine maintenance; establishes work priorities; issues work orders; prepares sketches, plans, and executes remodeling projects; estimates materials and labor costs for remodeling, alterations, and installation projects; orders and issues tools, equipment, supplies, and supervises maintenance thereof;
  4. Maintains materials and equipment inventories;
  5. Performs complex repair and maintenance tasks;
  6. Supervises a team of skilled and semi-skilled workers in maintenance tasks such as painting, carpentry, masonry, cement work, and general upkeep involving structures, furnishings, equipment, floor coverings, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, electrical, and related systems;
  7. Trains, instructs, and assigns tasks to subordinates, and inspects completed work; evaluates staff performance;
  8. Maintains time and cost records;
  9. Schedules vacation, relief, and emergency coverage; ensures compliance with safety standards and regulations.
Employment Standards:
  • Three years of journey-level experience in construction and/or maintenance work, including one year of experience in a specialty building trade (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.) and as a leadworker or supervisor; OR,
  • A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Additional Requirement: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License may be required for some positions.

Knowledge of: building maintenance and repair methods, materials, tools, and equipment; the operation and repair of building mechanical and electrical systems; housekeeping and janitorial tasks and standards; safety standards and regulations.

Ability to: plan, schedule, train, and supervise the work of others; perform complex repair and maintenance tasks; understand and follow through under general directions, and/or on own initiative; maintain records and prepare simple reports; coordinate building and maintenance activities within the division and with other divisions and departments; learn and apply principles and practices of supervision; learn contract administration.
