Wafer Fabrication Engineer

nLIGHT is seeking a skilled Process Engineer to drive continuous improvement in our Wafer Fab Operations team in Vancouver, Washington. The ideal candidate will have experience in semiconductor laser wafer fabrication and a strong understanding of wafer fabrication processes, material interactions, and analytical techniques.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and improve processes from conception to completion.
- Support the transition of new products from prototype to volume production using Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) methodologies.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities and yield metrics using lean manufacturing and six sigma concepts.
- Support the manufacturing of released processes and products, including generating Bill of Materials (BOMs) and routes, documenting work instructions, and training personnel.
- Evaluate, procure, and qualify new manufacturing equipment and materials.
- Collaborate with engineering technicians to ensure daily activities are aligned with company goals.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering (Physics, Materials, Optical, Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical) or exceptional industrial experience in closely related technologies.
- Two years of recent experience in semiconductor laser wafer fabrication.
- Familiarity with semiconductor device physics, Thin Film Processes, and Materials Science.
- Technical understanding of wafer fabrication processes, material interactions, processes, dominant failure mechanisms, and analytical techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to perform failure and root cause analysis and find effective solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with cross-functional and multi-site teams.
- Experience with mechanical drawings, basic tooling, and fixture design.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis and design of experiment.
