Automation Solutions Engineer II

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Field Service Engineer for Laboratory Automation will oversee the installation, qualification, training, and maintenance of automated fluid handling and plate processing systems within their designated regions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support site assessments and assist with sales initiatives for automated assay processing systems.
- Execute the installation of laboratory instruments at various client locations.
- Conduct service, repairs, and preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments, with a focus on automated fluid handling technologies.
- Maintain comprehensive and precise service records in alignment with organizational standards.
- Contribute to the development and execution of training programs for field service personnel.
- Serve as a communication bridge between service teams and engineering departments to resolve complex issues.
- Provide constructive feedback on potential enhancements to processes, products, and service offerings.
- Assist in the formulation of service procedures and checklists based on insights from product development and engineering teams.
- Specific responsibilities may vary based on departmental needs.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional/military experience is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of field service experience is essential, preferably with a background in biotechnology instrumentation.
- Proficiency in using basic hand tools and inspection equipment is necessary.
- Experience in developing processes and service protocols for field service operations is advantageous.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- In-depth knowledge of instrumentation alignment, training, and repair, with a preference for experience in liquid handling or robotics.
o Solid mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills, along with an analytical mindset.
o Experience in developing test scripts and analyzing software logs for automation systems is required.
- Familiarity with the life sciences drug discovery or clinical laboratory sectors is a plus.
- Knowledge of ISO Standards is beneficial.
- Proven ability to organize and advance project tasks systematically.
o Ability to effectively communicate issues and results that influence timelines, data accuracy, and product quality.
o Understanding of ISO, GLP, and Good Documentation Practices (GDP) is highly desirable.
o Capacity to produce clear, concise, and technically accurate documentation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating patience, tact, and diplomacy, especially under pressure.
- Proficiency in MS Windows, Office, and general networking configurations.
- A high degree of flexibility is expected, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and work efficiently in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
- Capability to work independently and as part of a team, engaging with all levels of the organization.
- Willingness to travel and work outside of standard business hours as required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- While performing the duties of this role, the individual is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear. Occasional walking, standing, and squatting are necessary; hands and fingers must be used to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reaching with hands and arms is also required.
- The individual must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds and may occasionally assist in lifting objects exceeding 50 pounds, but not more than 75 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position necessitates extensive travel within the assigned territory to customer locations, potentially up to five days a week.
