POSITION SUMMARY:


The Field Service Engineer for Laboratory Automation will oversee the installation, qualification, training, and maintenance of automated plate and fluid handling systems within designated regions.





KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assist with site assessments and provide sales support for automated assay processing technologies.
  • Execute the installation of laboratory automation instruments at client locations.
  • Conduct service, repairs, and preventive maintenance on automation systems, focusing on plate and fluid handling solutions.
  • Maintain precise, comprehensive, and current service documentation in line with organizational standards.
  • Support the creation and delivery of training programs for field service personnel.
  • Serve as a communication bridge between service teams and engineering for the resolution of complex issues.
  • Offer constructive feedback on enhancements to operational processes, products, and service capabilities.
  • May contribute to the development of service protocols and checklists based on insights from product development and engineering teams.
  • Specific tasks may vary based on departmental needs.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional/military experience is required.
  • At least 5 years of field service experience is essential, with a preference for candidates with a background in biotechnology instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in using basic hand tools and inspection devices is required.
  • Experience in developing service processes and protocols is advantageous.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • In-depth knowledge of instrumentation setup, training, and repair, particularly in liquid handling or robotics is preferred.
o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

o Must have solid mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills, along with a strong analytical foundation.

o Experience in developing test scripts and analyzing software logs for automation systems is necessary.

  • Familiarity with the life sciences drug discovery or clinical laboratory sectors is a plus.
  • Knowledge of ISO Standards is beneficial.
  • Proven ability to organize and advance project tasks systematically.
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

o Ability to effectively communicate issues and outcomes that influence timelines, data accuracy, and product quality.

o Understanding of ISO, GLP, and Good Documentation Practices (GDP) is highly desirable.

o Capability to produce clear, concise, and technically accurate documentation.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating patience, tact, and diplomacy while maintaining composure under pressure.
  • Proficiency in MS Windows, Office Suite, and general networking setup.
  • Flexibility to manage multiple tasks and work efficiently in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to work independently, as a valuable team member, and engage with all levels of the organization.
  • Willingness to travel and work outside standard business hours as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The individual will frequently need to sit, talk, and hear. Occasional walking, standing, and squatting may be required; the individual must be able to use hands and fingers to operate tools and controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The role requires the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, with occasional assistance in moving objects exceeding this weight, not to exceed 75 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:


This position necessitates extensive travel within the assigned territory to client sites, potentially up to five days a week.
