Job Summary

The U.S. Department of the Treasury is seeking a highly skilled Taxpayer Services Specialist to join our team. As a Taxpayer Services Specialist, you will be responsible for assisting and advising taxpayers in meeting their Federal Tax obligations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist taxpayers in meeting their Federal Tax obligations
  • Conduct interviews with taxpayers to determine their tax situation and provide advice
  • Discuss tax law impact with tax practitioners and accountants
  • Confers with taxpayers and/or their representatives to explain issues involving the applicability of tax law
  • Assist taxpayers in preparing tax returns and explains the consequences of courses of action
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National
  • Undergo a review of prior performance/conduct and an income tax verification
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check
  • Complete a suitability determination at the time requested by the agency
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process
  • Meet the qualifications outlined in the job announcement
Qualifications
  • General experience: three years of general experience, one year of which was at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 in the Federal Service
  • Education: 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Specialized experience: one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service
