Job Summary

The Oncology Research Nurse I is a key member of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, responsible for managing the direct care of patients enrolled in clinical trials. This role requires a Registered Nurse with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, proficiency in MS Word programs, and familiarity with Mac and PC platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct informed consent discussions and obtain informed consent from patients.
  • Attend and/or perform research visits, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
  • Perform and review required protocol assessments, physical assessments, and real-time drug accountability.
  • Monitor patient responses to intra- and post-study drug administration, as required per protocol.
  • Conduct study-related patient education and perform phone triage for acute clinical issues.
Documentation and Administration
  • Responsible for timely research nursing documentation, as per CPDM's Research Nursing Documentation SOP.
  • Facilitate study drug/product order preparation and verification.
  • Assist with pre-certifications and prior authorizations for procedures and prescriptions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent in education.
  • Current NYS RN License.
  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training certification, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certificate, and Conflict of Interest (COI) training certification are required upon hire.
