The Estimator is tasked with assessing bid specifications and drawings to ensure comprehensive understanding of project requirements for successful bidding and project acquisition. The Estimator is responsible for estimating and managing production costs by gathering and analyzing necessary information for each project and collaborating with Sales and Production Teams to create competitive cost estimates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform all duties and responsibilities in alignment with Sunland's Core Values.
- Quantify project components and amounts accurately.
- Understand project sites and contractual limitations.
- Collaborate with Project Consultants to gather essential information for project bidding.
- Advocate for safety and adhere to safety policies and procedures.
- Work closely with the Estimating and Sales teams to prepare accurate project bids.
- Collect and review proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents to prepare and present estimates.
- Analyze proposals and requirements thoroughly.
- Utilize past performance data to inform current bids.
- Maintain communication with subcontractors and vendors.
- Embody Sunland's Core Values in all interactions.
- Identify labor, material, and time requirements for each project.
- Calculate costs by evaluating labor, material, and time needs.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings.
- Utilize software to prepare estimates and supporting documentation.
- Manage personal estimating queue within Company Software daily.
- Review bid requirements meticulously.
- Catalog all information, notes, and meetings in Company Software.
- Provide weekly estimating updates to the Estimating Manager.
- Act as a front-line representative of the Company, delivering excellent service to customers and the public.
- Follow up with subcontractors to ensure bid submissions are received.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned. Note that this job description is not intended to be exhaustive and may change at any time.

- Act as a safety ambassador by complying with all applicable laws and Company safety policies, enforcing safe work practices, and proactively identifying and addressing worksite hazards.
- This position operates in professional construction sites and office environments, requiring the use of standard office equipment, effective verbal communication, the ability to read printed materials, and stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, carry, handle, or feel objects weighing up to 50 pounds and navigate various construction sites safely.
- Will be required to work outdoors, often for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to various chemicals, pollutants, and construction site hazards may occur.
- This is a full-time position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
- Must be willing to travel to various job sites as required.
Education and Work Experience
- A high school diploma or GED is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of estimating experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of general construction experience.
- Ability to read and interpret plans/blueprints is essential.
- Strong mathematical skills are required.
- Proficiency in MS Office and strong computer skills are necessary.
- Excellent communication and writing skills are essential.
- Fluency in English is required.
- A valid driver's license and a clean motor vehicle record are required.
- Passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and background check is mandatory.
