The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team in the Department of Pharmaceutical Care. This full-time position is available in our Acute Care, Satellite Pharmacy, where you will work under the general supervision of a pharmacist to coordinate and perform technical activities related to dispensing areas.

This role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate inventory levels, reviewing medication inventory for expired medications, and managing inpatient Epic In-Baskets.

You will also be responsible for delivering medications to patient care areas, returning medications from patient care areas that are no longer needed, and ensuring the security of medications when working in patient care unit medication rooms.

In addition, you will generate, review, and maintain records related to medication distribution and dispensing, and utilize various equipment such as laminar flow hoods, computerized label printers, and pneumatic tube systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate inventory levels and review medication inventory for expired medications
  • Manage inpatient Epic In-Baskets and deliver medications to patient care areas
  • Ensure the security of medications when working in patient care unit medication rooms
  • Generate, review, and maintain records related to medication distribution and dispensing
  • Utilize various equipment such as laminar flow hoods, computerized label printers, and pneumatic tube systems

Requirements:

  • Registered with the Pharmacy Board at the time of hire
  • National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • High school diploma or the equivalent
  • Experience in the natural sciences or satisfactory completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform ratio/proportion equations
  • Experience with inventory maintenance activities
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Knowledge of windows-based computer programs
