Job Summary:

Safety Management Systems, a leading provider of Health, Safety, Environmental, Medical, and Training services to the Upstream, Midstream, Refinery, and Petrochemical markets, is seeking a Safety Specialist to promote, establish, communicate, and implement safety expectations and initiatives. This role is responsible for monitoring and stimulating execution with contractor's safety policy, rules, and procedures, as well as monitoring conformance with project and site safety execution plans and implementing improvements where necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Attend and Document Pre-Shift Safety Meetings: Ensure that all pre-shift safety meetings are conducted and documented, highlighting any potential hazards or concerns.
  • Perform and Document Stop-Work Actions: Identify and document stop-work actions as needed to prevent accidents or injuries.
  • Prepare Reports for Business Unit and EHS: Compile and submit reports to the business unit and EHS department regarding contractor performance, highlighting areas of improvement.
  • Perform Pad Site/Drill Site Observations and Reviews: Conduct regular observations and reviews of pad sites and drill sites to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Organize Hazard Hunts and Document Resolution of Found Issues: Lead hazard hunts to identify potential hazards and document the resolution of found issues.
  • Perform Presentation and Training on Site-Specific Safety Orientation: Develop and deliver site-specific safety orientation training to ensure that all personnel are aware of the safety expectations and procedures.
  • Verify Contractor Compliance with Written EHS Program and Regulatory Reporting Documents: Ensure that contractors are in compliance with the written EHS program and regulatory reporting documents.
  • Monitor and Report on Contractor Safety Targets: Track and report on contractor safety targets to ensure that they are meeting the required standards.
  • Assist Business Unit and EHS in Performing Contractor Evaluations: Support the business unit and EHS department in conducting contractor evaluations to ensure that they are meeting the required standards.
  • Verify Contractor Has Training in Place for Scope of Work (H2S, Well Control, Hazcom): Ensure that contractors have the necessary training in place for their scope of work.
  • Perform a Weekly 'Sampling' Review of Contractor's JSA's: Conduct a weekly review of contractor's JSA's to ensure that they are meeting the required standards.
  • Participate in Investigation and Follow-Up of Incidents/Accidents: Participate in the investigation and follow-up of incidents and accidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Communicate EHS Expectations to Contractors, Third-Party Contractors, and Rig Personnel: Communicate EHS expectations to contractors, third-party contractors, and rig personnel to ensure that they are aware of the safety expectations and procedures.
  • Review and Document All Incidents and Near Misses: Review and document all incidents and near misses to identify areas for improvement.
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Environmental, Industrial Engineering/Technology, or a Related Field: A degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Industry Certifications: Industry certifications such as CHSO, OHST, ASP, CSP, Safe Land/IADC Rig Pass, First Aid/CPR, OSHA 10 hour, LOTO, Confined Space, and Hazcom are a plus.
  • Minimum 5 Years' Experience in a Drilling/Completions/Construction/Pipeline Safety Role: A minimum of 5 years' experience in a drilling/completions/construction/pipeline safety role within the upstream oil and gas industry is required.
  • Minimum 3 Years' Experience in an EHS/Regulatory Role: A minimum of 3 years' experience in an EHS/regulatory role within the upstream oil and gas industry is required.
  • Knowledge of Regulatory Requirements and EHS Management Systems: Must be knowledgeable of regulatory requirements and experienced in EHS management systems.
  • Ability to Work Weekends, Holidays, and Callouts: Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and callouts as required.
  • Excellent Computer Skills with Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite are required.
