Job Title: Specialty Instructor

As a thought-leader and best-in-class provider in education, wellness, youth development, and community-building, the YMCA of Metro Atlanta is one of the oldest and most essential non-profits serving in Atlanta. We're seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Specialty Instructor.

Job Summary:

The Specialty Instructor will be responsible for implementing specific training and skill development programs for individuals and groups. This role requires a strong ability to demonstrate, explain, and teach skills to learners of various levels. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education and a commitment to delivering high-quality programs that meet the needs of our members and community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide instruction in non-sports related activities, including education, wellness, and youth development programs.
  • Participate in special events and activities related to their specialty, promoting the YMCA's mission and values.
  • Maintain effective relationships with schools, parents, participants, and other groups, ensuring excellent customer service and communication.
  • Create an environment that provides various activities and instruction to support program goals, fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Answer inquiries from participants, parents, volunteers, or other stakeholders, providing information or seeking answers in a timely manner.
  • Attend staff meetings and approved training as required, staying up-to-date on best practices and YMCA policies.
  • Conduct assessments of program participants, evaluating their progress and adjusting instruction as needed.
Requirements:
  • Must be 18+ years or older.
  • Must have a 2+ years of experience as a teacher or instructor, or language fluency if teaching a language other than English.
  • Must currently hold or be able to acquire any required certification.
  • Knowledge of how to instruct and motivate learners.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, parents, volunteers, and staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ergonomic Requirements:

This role requires standing, walking, running, sitting, handling objects, reaching, climbing stairs, balancing, and lifting up to 60 pounds. The employee must be able to perform these tasks with minimal accommodations.

  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.
