Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Marine Systems Technician to join our team at Huntington Ingalls Industries. As a key member of our Surface Enhance Capability to Assess Program (SECAP) team, you will be responsible for scheduling and tracking damage control assessments on U.S. Naval Vessels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, train, and assist in the repair of Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) system/station valves with Damage Control and Hull Repair personnel.
  • Coordinate the assessment of all West Coast Naval Vessels for AFFF/Counter Measure Wash Down (CMWD) systems, identifying issues in three categories (Major, Minor, Repair Before Operating (RBO)).
  • Train Sailors in all aspects of AFFF & CMWD systems configuration (by class of ship), valve recognition, and system repair.
  • Assist Ships force in the identification of proper materials and manuals necessary to make repairs to maintain AFFF/CMWD systems.
  • Conduct AFFF system validation to ensure accuracy of proper documentation in reporting deficiencies through ships CSMP.
  • Provide written documentation to both surface ships and SURFPAC to the Commands status of AFFF and CMWD.

Requirements

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Must have Mechanical experience troubleshooting and repairing U.S. Navy Ships.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DBIDS (Base Access) and a DoD Security Clearance.
  • Must have experience in US Navy valve repairs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer technical/professional certifications.
  • Experience with U.S. marine sewage systems.
  • Knowledge in: Collection hold and transfer (CHT), Vacuum Collection hold and transfer (VCHT), and a current and valid DoD Security Clearance.
  • Prior US Navy experience as a Hull Technician or Damage Controlman is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.
  • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
  • May ride ships at sea for extended periods.
  • May require wearing a respirator.
