Job Summary

The Office of Chief Counsel, IRS, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisory General Attorney - Deputy Area Counsel to join their team. As a key member of the Office of the Division Counsel/Associate Chief Counsel (Criminal Tax), this individual will be responsible for providing legal advice and support to the Criminal Investigation, Internal Revenue Service, within an assigned geographic area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and support to the Cl Director, Field Operations, and Special Agents in Charge at all stages of the criminal investigation.
  • Supervise the Senior Counsels and Criminal Tax Attorneys within the assigned area.
  • Act in the absence of the Area Counsel and provide leadership to the team.
  • Work with the Area Counsel (Criminal Tax) to ensure proper levels of legal advice and support.
  • Identify and alert Criminal Tax senior management of emerging issues, problems, and areas of non-compliance.
  • Establish and monitor performance measures and program goals for providing legal services within the Criminal Tax organization.
  • Manage field operations and staff, including Senior Counsels and Criminal Tax attorneys within the assigned area.
  • Resolve problems in the operation of field offices and elevate appropriate issues to assure IRS-wide consistency of resolution.
  • Implement the Criminal Tax business unit strategy and goals that enhance compliance with the tax laws.
Requirements
  • Possess at least the first professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
  • Be an active member in good standing of the bar of a State, U.S. Commonwealth, U.S. territory, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
  • Have at least 1 year of general professional legal experience and 3 years of professional legal tax experience.
