Position Summary:
The Industrial Coating Specialist will be tasked with manually blasting steel and piping within an industrial blast booth, utilizing standard blasting equipment and tools. Responsibilities also include surface preparation using brushes, rollers, and conventional spray equipment to meet the specifications set forth by supervisors or job requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilizes high-pressure sandblasting equipment, chemical applications, power tools, and other abrasive methods to eliminate rust, grease, dirt, concrete, and old paint from surfaces prior to coating.
- Prepares surfaces and applies primer to piping or steel structures and equipment for subsequent primer and finish coats.
- Sand down rough areas to ensure proper adhesion of finishes.
- Operates within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
- Makes informed decisions based on trade knowledge and supervisory instructions.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility: None
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial blasting, with at least 8 years in industrial spray application, or an equivalent combination of vocational training and experience in a construction setting using conventional and airless equipment.
- Ability to multitask, work independently with minimal supervision, follow both written and verbal instructions, demonstrate attention to detail, and exhibit problem-solving skills.
- Must successfully pass a post-offer pre-employment drug screening and may be required to complete additional background checks.
- Adherence to all company policies and procedures is mandatory.
- Must have reliable transportation to report to various job sites as assigned.
- This is a smoke-free facility; smoking is not permitted during work hours.
Work Environment:
- May be exposed to varying temperatures, both indoors and outdoors, including inclement weather conditions.
- Hearing protection may be required in areas with moderate to high noise levels.
- Respiratory protection may be necessary when working in environments with fumes or airborne particles.
- Work may involve confined spaces or heights.
Physical Requirements:
- This position routinely requires the use of construction equipment, including heavy machinery and hand tools.
- Employees may need to climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand or walk for extended periods, and lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent use of hands to handle tools and controls, along with the ability to distinguish colors and maintain proper vision is essential.
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal travel is expected.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior military experience is a plus.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
