Job Title: Advanced Practice Provider
Job Summary: Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a skilled healthcare professional with the ability to provide high-quality patient care and work collaboratively with our medical team.
Responsibilities and Expectations
- Provide medical and/or surgical care and treatment to patients under the supervision of physician(s)
- Perform histories and physicals, order and interpret tests, make preliminary diagnosis, treat injuries/illness, and assist with surgical procedures
- Counsel patients and/or prescribe medication and perform invasive procedures as defined by the Virginia Board of Medicine
- Work collaboratively with the medical team to deliver organized, timely, cost-effective, and quality patient care
- Supervise support staff and provide patient care under defined departmental and state-approved scope of practice and under the supervision of an attending physician(s)
Performance Expectations
- Mastery of treatment and patient care of specialty population served
- Expert knowledge to coordinate patient care across the continuum of services through the patient's trajectory of illness
- Assess health status of individuals through health histories, physical examination, initiating screening, ordering or performing diagnostic tests, and providing direct patient care
- Initiate emergency procedures as needed, practice safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods, and make rounds with attending physicians as necessary
- Supervise and/or coordinate the activities of patient care and support staff within assigned area and document all pertinent information and data in the patient's medical record
- Interpreting information obtained from history and physical and develops a treatment plan, formulates and prioritizes appropriate short-term and long-term therapeutic plans when indicated
- Incorporate physical, spiritual, cultural, and psychosocial aspects of patients and families to promote optimum levels of health, explore strategies to decrease length of stay and resource consumption within specialty area, and establish priorities to meet the health needs of the individual, family or community
Requirements and Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwife, or Physician Assistant Program
- Current Virginia licensure from the appropriate Board as a Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwife, or Physician Assistant and current national certification as appropriate for role
- Credentialing in accordance with medical staff by-laws for specific job title and current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications where needed
