Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Food and Nutrition Specialist to join our team at Devonshire Acres Care. As a key member of our food services team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care and support to our residents.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in food preparation and presentation to ensure a high-quality dining experience for our residents.
  • Set up and deliver meal trays, food carts, and other dining essentials to designated areas.
  • Check diet trays before distribution to ensure accuracy and attention to dietary needs.
  • Serve food in the dining room with a warm and welcoming smile.
  • Ensure that food and supplies are readily available for the next meal.
  • Assist in cleaning and sanitizing work areas, equipment, and floors, as well as washing dishes and utensils.
  • Remove food trays from carts, dining rooms, and other areas.
  • Perform dishwashing and cleaning procedures to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Distribute and collect menus as needed.
  • Prepare and deliver snacks as instructed.
  • Carry out garbage and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Wear protective clothing and equipment when handling infectious waste and/or blood/body fluids.
  • Adhere to dress and jewelry requirements per health code regulations.
  • Assist with daily or scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Attend and participate in facility mandatory in-service training programs as scheduled.
  • Participate and assist in departmental studies and projects as assigned or that may become necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information, including protected health information.
  • Demonstrate a passion for caring and a commitment to providing exceptional service to our residents, families, and visitors.
  • Perform all other duties as requested.

Requirements
  • Must possess a minimum of an 8th-grade education.
  • On-the-job training provided.

Work Environment
  • Works in well-lighted and ventilated areas with a warm and noisy atmosphere for cooking.
  • Moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.
  • Communicates with the medical staff, nursing staff, and other department supervisors.
  • Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
  • Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
  • Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
  • Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
  • Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
  • Maintains a liaison with other department directors to adequately plan for food services/activities.
  • May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
