Job Title: Sterile Proc Tech

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sterile Proc Tech to join our team at Covenant Health. As a Sterile Proc Tech, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by processing and sterilizing medical instruments and supplies.

Responsibilities:

  • Clean, decontaminate, assemble, and sterilize instruments using established antiseptic techniques.
  • Operate and maintain washer decontamination units and ultrasonic cleaners.
  • Operate and maintain all sterilizers used within the sterile processing department and OR, maintaining appropriate records in compliance with Joint Commission standards.
  • Maintain routine biological readings on Steris for quality control.
  • Provide sterile linen and instrumentation for all clinical departments.
  • Assemble supplies and instruments necessary for surgical cases.
  • Responsible for putting away supplies and instruments and ensuring proper rotation of such.
  • Assist with supply replenishment process for the OR.
  • Maintain and operate etcher for proper identification of instruments.
  • Utilize department computer programs to complete data entry and access reports for supply and instrument management functions.
  • Communicate and render assistance to nursing staff within the limits of their training and skills.
  • Collect data for quality measurements.

Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent is required.
  • Additional training in the nursing field is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of aseptic technique is required.
  • Must be able to read with comprehension and write legibly.
  • Must be capable of understanding and following instructions provided on the proper care of surgical instruments, endoscopes, drills, and all items cleaned and processed for surgery.
  • Must possess critical thinking skills pertinent to the sterile processing environment.
  • Computer skills with hardware/software are preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six months' previous experience in the workroom is preferred.
  • SPD experience is preferred but not required.
  • Will be required to obtain HSPA certification 18 months post-hire.

Work Environment:

This position is located in a fast-paced healthcare environment and requires the ability to work in a team-oriented setting with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
