Law Enforcement Technician

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Law Enforcement Technician to join our team at the City of Rialto, CA. As a key member of our police department, you will play a vital role in supporting our operations and activities, serving the community, and preventing crime.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of complex duties in support of police department operations and activities.
- Respond to crime scenes to collect, process, record, and analyze evidence according to established procedures and standards.
- Conduct neighborhood watch meetings, establish contacts through door-to-door recruitment and surveys, and participate in area after-school youth programs.
- Perform duties in support of neighborhood security programs and crime abatement, inspect residential and commercial properties, and recommend security measures.
- Coordinate and participate in police department activities with other departments, divisions, and outside agencies, maintain vehicle fleet, and assign and maintain records of equipment and vehicles.
- Take reports of crimes where the situation is appropriate and within department policies and procedures.
- Respond to general inquiries from the public at the front counter, on the phone, or in the field, photograph and fingerprint individuals as needed, and take needed information from the public.
- Participate in a variety of special projects as directed, prepare, write, edit, and distribute newsletters, pamphlets, and other informational materials.
- Prepare a variety of correspondence, maintain various files and records, and order equipment and supplies.
- Operate a computer to enter and retrieve data.
- Provide in-service training to new Law Enforcement Technicians as needed.
- Maintain a variety of records and files in assigned program areas.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Requirements:
- Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
- Typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: two years of increasingly responsible non-sworn or sworn police program support experience with a high school diploma, or Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
- Completion of 80 hours of approved police department training in assigned program areas.
- Possession of a valid State of California driver's license.
Working Conditions:
Police department office and field environment, travel from site to site, exposure to computer screens, potentially hostile environment, and inclement weather conditions.

- BILINGUAL PAY: paid to employees who successfully pass the bilingual proficiency examination for Spanish ($100/month).
- VACATION: accumulated at the biweekly rate of 6 hours for the first through fourth years.
- THIRTEEN HOLIDAYS: observed each year, plus two floating holidays of employee's choice.
- SICK LEAVE: accumulated at the biweekly rate of 4.62 hours.
- SPORTS CENTER: usage has been made available; at no cost, to all employees as set forth in the usage guidelines.
- DEFERRED COMPENSATION: employees employed for five (5) years or more, effective January 1, 2016, are eligible to receive a flat monthly amount of three hundred dollars ($300) contributed in their behalf by the City.
