Overview: As a Civil Engineering Intern at GCW Engineering, Inc., you will gain invaluable experience by applying your academic knowledge in a professional environment. This role offers a chance to connect with industry professionals and engage in hands-on projects. You will collaborate with the Project Management team, contributing to design, documentation, and administrative tasks based on your skills and knowledge. This is a part-time opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct basic calculations and perform data entry tasks.
  • Assist in design tasks and drafting using computer-aided design (CADD) software.
  • Support team members with various project activities, including research, data compilation, and report preparation.
  • Address feedback and comments from project managers and agencies on plans.
  • Participate in internal training sessions.

Water/Wastewater Division Responsibilities:
  • Conduct analyses related to water and sewer systems.
  • Develop GIS databases and visual representations of existing and proposed infrastructure.
  • Evaluate the condition of sewer facilities and provide rehabilitation recommendations.
  • Create improvement plans for reservoirs, pump stations, and sewer lift stations.
  • Design plans for major utility infrastructure.
  • Conduct sewer and water main infrastructure design.
  • Perform sewer capacity studies.
  • Execute hydraulic analyses.
  • Coordinate with utility services.

Airport and Summerlin Division Responsibilities:
  • Engage in conceptual planning.
  • Prepare conceptual design reports.
  • Work on airside design projects (runways, taxiways, aprons).
  • Contribute to landside design (roadways, curb fronts, parking areas).
  • Familiarize with FAA regulations and specifications.

Transportation/Traffic Division Responsibilities:
  • Develop preliminary design reports.
  • Conduct traffic studies.
  • Create traffic models and simulations.
  • Design traffic signal systems.
  • Engage in arterial and freeway design, including roadside safety considerations.
  • Coordinate with utility services.
  • Address feedback and comments from project managers and agencies on plans.

Structural Division Responsibilities:
  • Design bridges following AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Manual guidelines.
  • Design buildings in accordance with IBC standards.
  • Design retaining walls and flood control structures.
  • Conduct structural analysis using relevant software.

Land Development Division Responsibilities:
  • Engage in residential, multi-family, commercial, and industrial development projects.
  • Participate in park and school development initiatives.

Design Responsibilities Include:
  • Preparing improvement plans, including grading, utility, and traffic designs, adhering to applicable codes and requirements.
  • Developing site layouts based on client specifications.
  • Coordinating drainage design, including the size and location of storm drain facilities.
  • Creating site footprints from architectural drawings.
  • Preparing standard plans for agency submissions.
  • Maintaining awareness of client preferences and requirements.
  • Creating cost exhibits related to site development.
  • Utilizing spreadsheets to assist in design tasks.
  • Conducting site visits and inspections.
  • Occasionally meeting with clients and agencies.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to apply engineering principles to assess and resolve basic engineering challenges.

Education and Experience:
  • Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering program at a university or college.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
  • Familiarity with CAD Civil 3D software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project) is advantageous.
  • A valid driver's license is required, and travel in a personal vehicle may be necessary.
