Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer - Delivery to join our team at NV Energy. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive civil/structural engineering design services for substation and/or transmission facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement civil engineering designs for substation and transmission projects, including site development, grading, and drainage facilities.
  • Provide structural engineering services for substation steel structures, foundations, and control enclosures.
  • Conduct transmission line engineering analysis, route analysis, and selection, and prepare designs for line design, including structure loading, foundation design, and conductor sag.
  • Specify materials and evaluate bid documents and technical submittals.
  • Acquire all necessary construction approvals and permits from the authority having jurisdiction.
  • Develop economical, technically feasible, and reliable transmission and substation civil/structural designs with minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Provide mentoring, leadership, training, and direction to fellow staff members, and provide technical design and project peer review.
  • Independently scope, route, and site substation and transmission line projects, and evaluate alternatives to find the best value.
  • Coordinate and interact professionally with internal and external customers and stakeholders to ensure a successful project.
  • Perform studies, prepare and provide written and oral reports to executive management, internal and external customers, and provide input as the subject matter expert for the department.
  • Provide accurate cost estimates and schedule input for use in company budgeting procedures.
  • Evaluate, benchmark, and make recommendations for the creation and improvements of substation and transmission standards and specifications.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited school and 15 years of industry experience, including experience performing highly technical work of specialized nature.
  • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of utility settings, specifically in the areas of civil, structural, and/or transmission engineering design.
  • Working knowledge of civil experience with large 345kV or 500kV substation/switchyard site development or related design.
  • Structural experience involving substation steel design or transmission pole design for projects up to 345kV or 500kV.
  • Transmission line design experience, including overhead line design up to 345kV or 500kV and/or underground line design up to 230kV.
  • Skills such as analytical, interpersonal, and communication.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

General office environment. Travel may be required up to 25% of work hours and may consist of travel to remote parts of Nevada in order to scope substation sites or transmission alignments and support design and construction. Walking over rugged terrain at high elevation may be required.

Additional Requirements

Annual Salary: $113, Min) to $133, Mid); Up to 15% Short Term Incentive Plan target opportunity at the discretion of the company. This is a non-represented position.
