Job Summary

Houston Methodist Hospital is seeking a skilled Chaplain to provide spiritual care to patients, families, and staff. The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in theology or a related field, with four units of clinical pastoral education (CPE) and board certification as a chaplain. The Chaplain will work independently, exercising sound judgment and critical thinking skills to provide spiritual care support to patients and their families. The successful candidate will be able to work collaboratively with the healthcare team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide spiritual care to patients, families, and staff, including conducting initial assessments and follow-up care.
  • Develop and implement patient care plans, taking into account the patient's spiritual, religious, and emotional needs.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure seamless care coordination and communication.
  • Participate in interprofessional health team rounds and provide spiritual care support to patients and families.
  • Document patient visits and spiritual care provided in the patient's record.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in theology or a related field from an institution accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
  • Four units of clinical pastoral education (CPE) from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification as a chaplain from a nationally recognized certifying body.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a professional chaplain in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of spiritual care principles and practices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
