Position Overview
Job Title: VP, Senior SBA Underwriter
Role Summary
The Senior SBA Underwriter is responsible for assessing loan applications and financial data, creating concise reports for credit decision-making regarding new and renewal SBA loans, in line with the Bank's policies and SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). This role requires managing over 70 deal assignments annually and demands advanced knowledge of financial analysis and SBA/Bank requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Ensure loan packages are complete and compliant.
2. Review borrower and credit information to assess eligibility for loan programs.
3. Communicate with borrowers to gather necessary information for underwriting decisions.
4. Analyze financial data from various sources, including credit reports and industry data, to inform underwriting decisions.
5. Evaluate customer information, such as leases and business plans, to assess credit impact.
6. Review legal documents and reports to identify any additional information needed for underwriting.
7. Assess risk areas in appraisals and environmental reports, recommending solutions.
8. Conduct market research and analyze industry data.
9. Review financial covenants to determine their impact on lending requests.
10. Perform detailed financial analysis focusing on cash flow, liquidity, and repayment capacity.
11. Prepare comprehensive credit memos for approval.
12. Issue commitment letters as required.
13. Maintain compliance with Bank operational policies and relevant regulations.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in financial analysis.
- In-depth knowledge of SBA 7(a) and 504 loan programs, as well as real estate appraisal methodologies.
- Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Strong customer service skills with effective communication abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in relevant software and personal computers.
Compensation
Salary Range: $86,700 - $93,000 plus commissions, based on relevant experience and skills.
