Position Overview
As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Registered Dietitian is responsible for the nutritional management of patients within designated units. This role involves the planning, assessment, implementation, and evaluation of individualized nutritional care strategies. The Registered Dietitian also plays a key role in menu adjustments and other nutrition-related activities.
Key Responsibilities
- May provide mentorship and training to fellow team members.
- Conducts interviews with patients and/or their families to gather nutritional histories, ascertain food preferences, and document findings in the patients' medical records.
- Performs comprehensive nutritional assessments, formulates and executes tailored care plans, and collaborates with medical staff to recommend nutrition care strategies.
- Advises on necessary therapeutic diet alterations and/or supplemental feeding options to physicians, ensuring the accuracy of diet orders by cross-referencing with physician directives.
- Delivers nutritional education, guidance, and counseling to patients and their families in alignment with prescribed dietary plans. Calculates nutrient content for tube feeding and dietary intake as per physician orders.
- Contributes to the enhancement of patient menus, incorporating patient preferences, and aids in the development of standardized recipes while supervising food service personnel in proper food handling and portion control.
- Designs and facilitates individual and group educational sessions, referring clients to community resources as appropriate. Actively participates in and promotes wellness initiatives.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication channels regarding nutrition information within the program and the broader community.
- Conducts in-service training for culinary, food service, and interdisciplinary teams on therapeutic diets and related subjects.
- Engages in Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement activities, including data collection and execution of related tasks as directed.

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required.
Current Registered Dietitian Certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration is mandatory.
Certification as a Dietitian Nutritionist in New York State (CDN) may be required.
Advanced or specialized certifications as necessary.
1-3 years of pertinent experience is required.
