Job SummaryThe Research Fellow will work closely with lab members under the supervision of Dr. Alissa Rothchild to support the lab's research efforts and contribute to ongoing projects in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
Research FocusThe Rothchild lab is dedicated to understanding the role of macrophages as innate immune sentinels in the lung during Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, a pathogen of global health significance. The lab employs a combination of immunological and microbiological techniques in a mouse model of infection to uncover mechanisms of immune regulation and potential therapeutic targets.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the lab's mouse colony, including genotyping and colony maintenance.
- Conduct research experiments in BSL-3 and ABSL-3 facilities with pathogenic bacteria.
- Collect and analyze tissue samples.
- Order and organize supplies and reagents.
- Prepare media and reagents for experiments.
- Organize and analyze data.
- Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field.
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a research team.
- Ability to work with mouse models and perform Biosafety Level-3 work.
- Experience maintaining detailed laboratory notebooks and records, data collection, and analysis.
- Proficient computer skills, including data entry, word processing, spreadsheets, and data analysis.
- 12-18 months of laboratory experience or a related Master's degree.
- Experience in animal model techniques, including handling, injecting, and genotyping mice.
- Experience in basic molecular and cell biology techniques, including sterile technique and reagent preparation.
- Experience in immunology techniques, including multicolor flow cytometry and immunofluorescent microscopy.
- Experience in microbiology techniques, including bacterial culture and in vitro infection models.
The Research Fellow will work in a lab environment, with the ability to work independently and as part of a research team. Training in immunology and microbiology techniques will be provided as needed.
