The selected candidate will focus solely on the Civil Litigation sector.

Our Junior Attorneys are expected to thrive in a diverse work environment and be open to tackling innovative legal challenges, as our mission revolves around intricate civil issues that may involve litigation. These cases necessitate thorough preparation of standard administrative tasks while maintaining a focus on federal litigation. Our legal team must welcome the intellectual challenges posed by evolving legal frameworks. To excel in the Junior Attorney position, candidates should be strategic and inventive thinkers with a strong commitment to justice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support a varied caseload of federal civil litigation and administrative tasks across the nation;
  • Under the guidance of the Civil Litigation Department Head, assess witnesses and present arguments in pre-trial, trial, and appellate Civil Litigation cases, based on experience;
  • Prepare legal documents including complaints, motions, briefs, and discovery for civil litigants in federal courts at all levels;
  • Conduct legal evaluations and consultations with prospective clients, providing recommendations to management;
  • Ensure appropriate administrative procedures are followed prior to litigation, with meticulous attention to detail;
  • Meet all case deadlines, both court-imposed and internal;
  • Collaborate with community partners to create educational presentations and events;
  • Assist the legal team with various tasks, projects, and initiatives as required;
  • Work alongside senior attorneys and the MLFA team to formulate case strategies;
  • Adhere to all professional ethical standards for local jurisdictions and nationwide;
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations in all work duties;
  • Exemplify MLFA's values in daily activities.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution
  • Admission to a state bar and at least one federal jurisdiction
  • A minimum of one year of practical litigation experience
  • Demonstrated interest in public interest law
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe software
  • Prior experience in nonprofit organizations is preferred
  • Experience working with marginalized or impacted communities, grassroots organizations, and NGOs
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Farsi or Arabic is advantageous
