Washington, Washington, D.C., United States Plenty Full time
About Plenty

We're on a mission to make fresh, pesticide-free fruits and vegetables more accessible to everyone. Our cutting-edge indoor, vertical farms produce extraordinary yields using a fraction of the land and water outdoor farms need. Our crops are nutrient-rich, mouth-watering, and locally grown, helping people, communities, and our planet to be healthier and more resilient.

We're a collaborative and innovative team, passionate about our contributions to Plenty, the communities around us, and our planet. We're down-to-earth, we grow together, and we always find a way. Most importantly, we're growing for a better tomorrow, today.

About the Role

We're seeking a dynamic Manager, Installation and Integration Engineering to join our Installation & Integration team. The Installation and Integration Engineering team is part of the Deployment Organization responsible for constructing, equipping, and commissioning indoor, vertical farms globally. In this role, you'll lead a team of field engineers installing and starting up OEM and custom equipment. You'll play a crucial role in bringing our state-of-the-art indoor vertical farms to life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and Manage: Direct and coordinate the activities of Installation & Integration engineers, facilitating effective installation and commissioning of OEM and IP equipment to enable end-to-end farm manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with program managers, technical program managers, growers, system architects, and farm operations staff to develop system requirements and set objectives that meet business goals.
  • Oversee Testing and Commissioning: Approve and supervise implementation of acceptance testing plans and commissioning protocols for various pieces of farm equipment.
  • Integrate Systems: Coordinate with controls and software area managers to integrate equipment to our customized data systems.
  • Develop Documentation: Define and implement a plan to develop process documentation (Standard Operating Procedures, One Point Lessons, and Cleaning Procedures) and equipment maintenance manuals.
  • Construction Coordination: Partner with Construction Manager(s) to define utility requirements (electrical, compressed air, water, etc.) and coordinate the installation and initial commissioning (functional testing) of farm processing equipment.
  • Validate Processes: Support the validation of line-level processes, throughput, and reliability before handing off to the Operations Team for production and the Process Integration Team for yield validation.
  • Meet Milestones: Ensure that projects/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.
What You'll Bring to the Table
  • 6+ years of experience designing and supporting product development programs in food manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and/or light industrial sectors.
  • Education or experience equivalent to B.S. or higher degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial engineering, or a closely related field.
  • A people manager passionate about mentoring and developing the skills of engineers.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals with a solid understanding of thermal, fluids, and mechanical engineering.
  • Understanding of validation processes such as CQV or IQ, OQ, PX commissioning activities.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects and keep work flows progressing.
  • Ability to use data and modeling to drive product and process decisions.
  • Capability and interest in working as both a leader and individual contributor, with a bias towards collaboration and action; some situations are best handled by managers who can dive deep into design details when needed.
  • Effective budget management.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel globally to manage and oversee projects.
What We Can Offer
  • Compensation: we'll pay you a competitive salary on a biweekly basis, give you a stake in the company via equity, and contribute toward your 401K.
  • Health & well-being: we'll invest in your physical and mental well-being with comprehensive medical, dental, & vision benefits, along with support for your mental health through Spring Health and financial wellness through LearnLux. Plus pet insurance for your furry family members.
  • Food: in-office snacks and access to our leafy greens & new produce in development.
  • Grow together: learning & development opportunities including lunch & learns, training certifications, and more.
  • Equipment: we'll provide you with the equipment you need to be successful, including $75/month toward your home internet and phone bills and $250 every 2 years to upgrade your phone.
  • Paid time off: we know you'll do your best if you're taking time to recharge, so we don't cap the amount of vacation days you can take off per year + offer 6 days of paid sick leave per year in addition to the paid holidays we observe.
  • Parental leave: 12 weeks off for all eligible new parents - fully paid so you can focus your energy on your newest addition.
