Chief Financial Officer Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to join our team at the Wisconsin Humane Society. This is a full-time position that offers a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of animals and people.

About Us

The Wisconsin Humane Society is the oldest and largest animal shelter in Wisconsin, founded in 1879. We provide a wide range of services, including adoption, youth programming, veterinary resources, and more. Our organization operates shelters in multiple counties and has a spay/neuter clinic in West Allis.

Job Summary

The Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring our financial health and sustainability. This includes providing strategic oversight and leadership to our IT, retail, and finance teams.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure the financial strength and sustainability of the Wisconsin Humane Society
  • Provide strategic oversight for all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process, working closely with department managers and other stakeholders to develop realistic and achievable budgets
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and provide regular updates and analysis
  • Work closely with the President & CEO and leadership team to develop and implement strategic plans and goals that support our mission and vision
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field, or equivalent experience; CPA and/or MBA desirable
  • At least five years experience as a CFO or equivalent, preferably in a nonprofit organization with a budget of at least $5 million, multiple funding sources, and multiple operating locations
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, supervisory, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to deliver results
Benefits

Salary

$120,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on experience.

Location

Milwaukee, WI, with occasional travel to our other locations.
