Job Description:
Role Overview
The Senior Accounting Specialist, External Reporting will be responsible for preparing SEC-compliant financial reports and disclosures, ensuring timely and accurate information for audits. This role involves leading audits for employee benefit plans, collaborating with various departments, and providing mentorship to junior staff.

Key Responsibilities
* Prepare GAAP and SEC-compliant financial reports and disclosures for external audiences, including shareholders, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and investment analysts.
* Lead the annual audits for the Company's employee benefit plans, including all defined contribution, defined benefit, health and welfare, and master trust plans.
* Coordinate with various global Business Unit personnel and corporate departments to ensure receipt of timely and accurate financial and nonfinancial information which is used in the preparation of the Company's financial statements.
* Partner with various departments, including JCI Business Unit Accounting teams around the world, HR and Benefits, Corporate Treasury, Investor Relations, FP&A, and Corporate Consolidations.

Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA certification desired, but not required.
* Minimum four+ years of relevant experience, preferably with a public accounting firm and/or experience with large, global publicly traded companies.
* Proven understanding of US GAAP and SEC reporting, preferably including the accounting and reporting of employee benefit plans.
* Detail-oriented and dedication to, and understanding of, the importance of reporting accurate figures.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to build professional relationships with individuals at all levels across the organization.
* Ability to solve problems and see opportunities for operational improvement and a drive to achieve both short and long-term results.
* A strong desire to learn and grow personally and professionally.
