As an integral member of Stantec's Environmental Services team, the role of Ecological Consultant and Chiropteran Specialist is pivotal in conducting comprehensive environmental assessments and providing expert guidance on regulatory compliance. Your Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct ecological evaluations and manage waterway and wetland regulatory initiatives.
  • Deliver specialized knowledge in field data acquisition, including wetlands, habitats, wildlife, and water quality assessments.
  • Perform detailed wildlife surveys and habitat evaluations for threatened and endangered species.
  • Prepare necessary documentation in accordance with NEPA, USACE, EPA, USFWS, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Assist in conducting bat surveys, including mist-netting and acoustic monitoring, while analyzing acoustic data.
  • Support the preparation of environmental permit applications and reviews of endangered species records.
  • Manage and analyze data effectively, ensuring accuracy and organization.
  • Contribute to the creation of written reports, tables, spreadsheets, and maps for client and regulatory agency review.
  • Engage in technical writing for reports and memoranda.
  • Proactively identify challenges and implement improved procedures to enhance efficiency and safety.
  • Uphold Stantec's commitment to quality control and assurance.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, and regulatory personnel.

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience in fieldwork, particularly in wetland delineation, utilizing USACE regional supplements.
  • Experience with acoustic monitoring equipment for data collection and analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Team-oriented mindset, with a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary projects.
  • Excellent time management skills, capable of managing multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Willingness to travel to various work sites, including overnight stays as required.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in fields such as botany, plant ecology, wetlands ecology, conservation biology, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Willingness to engage in fieldwork in remote areas, including exposure to varying weather conditions.
