Archaeological Crew Chief Job Description

AZTEC Engineering Group, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Archaeological Crew Chief to join our Phoenix, Arizona Cultural Resources Group. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading archaeological field investigations and ensuring the successful completion of projects in the Southwest and Great Basin regions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct and assist crew members with archaeological field investigations, ensuring adherence to proper field methods and protocols.
  • Conduct site file searches at federal, state, tribal, and private repositories to gather relevant information.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external team members, clients, and the public to ensure project success.
  • Travel to project sites, which may involve overnight and out-of-state stays for extended periods.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Cultural Resource Management, with prior crew chief experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Southwest and/or Great Basin prehistory and/or history, archaeological method, and theory.
  • Experience participating in and/or directing survey, testing, data recovery, and/or monitoring.
  • Proficiency in using GPS and GIS applications, including ArcGIS Pro.
  • Ability to generate, organize, and maintain accurate field records that meet state and federal standards and guidelines.
  • Experience authoring or co-authoring technical reports is preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier.
  • Understanding of applicable federal and state Cultural Resource Management/Historic Preservation laws is preferred.
