Job Title: Transportation Engineer

At the Department of Transportation, we are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Engineer to join our team. As a Transportation Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and monitoring the up-time health performance of the State Highway System as it relates to electrical and electronic Transportation Management Systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing and monitoring the up-time health performance of the State Highway System
  • Perform electrical engineering and analysis to ensure reliable, continuous, and high performing TMS/ITS electrical installations
  • Provide support on contract management, project development, systems operation, performance, and reliability of an end-to-end TMS infrastructure

Requirements:

  • Eligibility for hire is determined by your score and rank on the Transportation Engineer (Electrical) Exam
  • Must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions
  • Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification

Working Conditions:

This position is located in Oakland, Alameda County. The incumbent will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting and may be required to visit the Field Facilities and Headquarters.

Special Requirements:

  • The position requires a valid and unrestricted Class C driver's license
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is required when operating a state-owned or leased vehicle
  • Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Electrical) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers
