About the Job

This position plays a critical role in supporting the University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) in its mission to serve veterinarians, scientists, educators, and the livestock and poultry industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining all aspects of the Histology Laboratory, performing complex histologic procedures, and contributing to research projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain histology laboratory equipment, perform histologic procedures, and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.
  • Participate in research projects, prepare case study material, and participate in national histologic study sets.
  • Maintain daily logbooks, archives, and quality control records.
  • Perform general laboratory maintenance tasks, including inventory management, hazardous waste disposal, and quality control policies.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified HT (Histotechnician) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or pending certification within 6 months of hire date.
  • Experience working in veterinary laboratory/clinic or with animal research samples.
