Job Summary:

The YMCA of the North is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to serve as the Beacons School Success Lead. This part-time role will be responsible for developing, planning, and leading groups of youth in after-school programs, focusing on educational, recreational, and leadership development activities.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with school-aged youth, excellent interpersonal communication and mediation skills, and the ability to plan and facilitate youth development programming.

This position operates at a specific Beacons School Success center and reports directly to the Sr. Coordinator or Program Director.

Essential Functions:
  • Plan, develop, and implement enrichment curriculum and program activities with a group of young people.
  • Provide work direction to program staff and volunteers while on duty.
  • Evaluate the program on a continuous basis and recommend needed changes to the Beacons School Success Sr. Coordinator and/or Program Director.
  • Ensure that the center and classroom spaces are kept clean and organized.
  • Perform administrative activities to support the program, including collecting daily attendance.
  • Assist in the promotion of the program, including recruiting young people to the program, communication to families and school staff.
Relationships:

This position interacts with participants, parents, staff, school employees, and the community.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Experience and/or education in youth studies, child development, human relations, communication, or recreational programs.
  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: Adult and child CPR or CPR/PR; First Aid; and AED.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and facilitate youth development programming.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications and mediation skills.
  • Willingness to work with people of diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with school-age children in an enrichment setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum 6 months experience working with school-aged youth.
  • Degree in education, recreation, or a field related to child care.
  • Supervisory/management experience.
  • Multilingual.
  • Knowledge of Trauma-Informed and Youth Development best practices.
Work Conditions:

The incumbent must be able to move throughout a school building regularly throughout the day, actively participate in youth games/activities, and perform all physical aspects of the position, including moving around, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.

The work environment ranges from quiet work areas to busy, noisy indoor and outdoor spaces with several groups talking amongst themselves concurrently.

The incumbent may be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions, or bodily fluids as part of the environment.
